Another great night of racing with 16 boats on the line. Competition was so fierce that two boats were tied in 2nd place in the first race and thus were awarded 2.5 points according to the rulebook. Newcomer Tiago dominated the night with Mike, James, Drake & Eric rounding out the top five.
Another area where the competition was fierce was at the weather mark rounding and there were several pile ups and near misses. Plan your approaches and, when necessary, do your turns. It's great fun sailing in a larger fleet but if we forget ourselves and stop following the rules and doing our turns we'll be back to a five or six boat fleet before we know it. As a general rule of thumb, if you come in on port in the two-length zone and force the starboard boat to tack to avoid ramming you, you probably need to take your penalty turns. If there is an honest difference of opinion, then take advantage of the 3-minute justice protest hearing and maybe we can all learn a little more about the racing rules.
Don't forget next week is our night to host. It's Mexican theme night!
